Once you beat and complete one game of Valkyrie Profile 2, the next time you replay it with the same file, each new game will continously become harder, in terms of enemies / bosses and the overall level and abilities of foes. The current difficulty rating is gauged from crystals on the main screen. Every new cleared game becomes a small crystal, and ten small crystals become one big crystal, the maximum number of big crystals is five, making the game possible to be increased 50 times.
