A world inhabited by four races: mitras, yamas, qsitis, and sovannis. A world filled with Remnants, mysterious artifacts from an anicent era. Who created these Remnants? How long ago? And for what purpose? With these questions left unanswered, the Remnants became benefical tools used for the good of civilization. The world was peaceful, or so it seemed. Who was to know such darkness lay in wait? The powers of the Remnants slowly began to change the world's balance. A rift slowly formed between those who ruled and those who obeyed. This was the dawning of a new era--an era of countless frays that would be brought upon the world by those enslaved by their own lust for power. A thousand years later, the journey of one man begins.

The battle system of the Last Remnant will be turn-based. However, unlike the conventional turn-based RPG, The Last Remnant will have massive battles using groups called Unions. Each move will be dictated through and take place in a Union. At the top of the screen, a meter known as the Morale Meter will display and track the morale between your Union and the Enemy's Union. The Morale meter has two different colors and is marked by a placeholder that displays morale. The blue meter is your Morale, the Red meter is the enemy's current morale. Having the morale meter having a larger ratio of blue to red means you have a higher morale during battle. Morale is increased through your current status in the battle. For example if you are knocking out more of your enemy's Union members, your morale is higher and so forth. Also, summoning Remnants increases your morale as well.

So far we know nothing concerning Remnants, other than that they can be summoned during battle to crush opposing Unions. Interviews with the developers have only really stirred up more confusion, apparently they can't describe what they are, because they apparently don't even know

So far, only a limited amount of screens and one teaser trailer have been shown. Only three characters have also been reveled. We will probably see even more gameplay footage, another trailer and probably more characters revealed at the 2007 Tokyo Game Show.
