Square Enix Makes Takeover Bid For Tecmo

In an attempt to further extend their dominance of the video game market outside of Japan and the RPG world, Square Enix has made a takeover bid on the publishing company Tecmo. Tecmo has been known for some great games world wide, specifically their action titles such as Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive. These titles have helped Tecmo gain a major foothold in the U.S. market and that’s exactly why Square Enix has shown so much interest in them.

The hopes are high with Square Enix as much of their content at this point is focused on Japan and the RPG market first. Having a publishing company that handles specifically action based games. That would free up the desire to focus on something other than what they excel at just by attaining a foothold in Tecmo.

The Tecmo Board of Directors does have until September 4th to approve or reject this takeover bid. If the bid is rejected, Square Enix has stated that they will retract their offer completely. We’ll keep you posted as to whether or not this offer goes through and how this will alter the course of both companies over the next year.
